Holiday Visit to Joan and Craig's Studio

[Jaymie writing Saturday night]. Jill, Mom, Joan and Craig and I all met at the studio at 4 this afternoon. The lights looked great, Sergei! And the whole studio looked terrific.

More Holiday Visits

Jill's at Mom's apartment modelling her gift in the family exchange. She is beautiful! (This is Jaymie writing since I took the photo today). Jill can write her own post when she gets to it. She's visiting Mom in Boston Friday to Sunday. We all went to Joan and Craig's studio this afternoon. See next post for photos.

MLC gets best seats in house.

Nini,
Actually, there was NOT a football game going on in our living room, but I wanted to model the stadium seats anyway. I have seen many models, but these are top of the line. Thank you. I will be envied next season at McGuirk Stadium (UMass). And they came in my favorite color combo (black and gold, or Black and Gold, as we say around here despite a horrifically disappointing season). And, they will be great when we are kayaking, stop on a river or lake shore for a picnic. Now we will have the comfort of home dining. A wonderful idea, and thank you again.

Bravo!

You Chernoffs get gold stars this holiday season ... not only did you take it upon yourselves to organize the infamous "Christmas draw," but now you've taken the plunge and pioneered the first Wolcott Street Blog. Good work!!!

We've had a very special and relatively low-key week. The highlight was probably dinner at J&C's studio. They decorated with Christmas lights, which Sergei had creatively woven around various artworks on the walls, and candles on all of the work tables, which this proud Mom must add were made by Alex. The space felt transformed and so festive. Craig's Boeuf Bourgignogne (sp?) was fab, as usual, with his touch of cumin, fennel head, and a sprinkling of fresh cilantro. Craig also made a delish linzer torte and I contributed my homemade key-lime pie with graham-cracker crust. We'd also brought homemade cookies -- pistachio and cranberry biscotti and molasses-ginger cookies. The guest list wasn't exclusively Wolcotts. In addition to the five of us and Mom, J&C had invited Cathe Foster, her daughter Alina, and a most interesting man from down the hall. Turns out, "Cami" is from Nepal and was a Sherpa on Mt. Everest, where he nearly died in an avalanche. Leave it to J&C to befriend such interesting folk. Alex is still talking about him and his amazing life story and the sheer coincidence that he actually sat beside him at Christmas dinner.

Well, there's so much more to tell and lots of pictures to share, but my sweet hubby is waiting for me to watch our latest video rental "Motorcyle Diaries." So I shall join him now rather than to keep writing on my computer, which by the way, is a new MAC Powerbook! Yes, Santa was very good to me this year :-)

Much love to all,
Jenny

Christmas Eve in Amherst and Brooklyn

It was a great Season of Light and wonderful to be with Nina and Bryn again. Mike, Bryn and I returned to Amherst Sunday afternoon. Nina took the train back to DC and then joined Jenn's family in Rehoboth for Christmas Eve and morning. Jenn Oliva and Tim Yu both got UMass hats for Christmas.... sounds serious.
We had a few lights on Gray Street, spilling over Hanukkah, Solstice and Christmas. The neighborhood had a nice feeling. We went next door (new neighbors, more architects) for a small Christmas Eve gathering, then came home for a quiet fish soup (when is soup noisy?) and family dinner. Monday was a gray day here. We were sorry to miss the Artists' Christmas Dinner in the studio. (The meal sounded fabulous!) We read our new books, and saw a bit more of Bryn's travel photos emerging from her Mac, and then saw a wonderful, very funny movie at Amherst Cinema, "Little Miss Sunshine". Go see it if you haven't. Laugh out loud funny in a dear kind of way. Happy new year all! Love, Jaymie (I hope you post your Christmas stories!)

Beautiful gift from Bam

Bam, I loved the cashmere scarf! It's very unusual and elegant... densely knit, with tiny pearls on the lower halves. I was initially disappointed when I saw from the Fed Ex pkg. that I wasn't getting another bench, but you made a great choice. And good color for me although this photo isn't my best.... the scarf is lovely. Thanks! (Does this count as a thank you note, Miss Manners?)

Celebrating all weekend in Amherst and Brooklyn

We started with the Solstice Breakfast in Amherst. I think I've been doing it for 10-12 years! This year, Friday before Christmas, Jenny and Joan made the trek out and it was great to have them. I made a Italian chard egg/cheese torte that is a recipe I should share.

Saturday morning, Bryn, Mike and I drove to Brooklyn in time to meet Nina at 215 Carleton Ave, Brooklyn, new home of Bryn Chernoff and Tim Yu, formerly of Seoul and various beaches in SE Asia. We strolled around the neighborhood, then moved to opening presents..... Nina opened her gift from G'Mom first. She'll do her own report but I have the photo... it went up to the top of the page, alas, but you'll recognize Nina. Let me try again with Bryn and her gift from G'Mom: .... hmmm, this blog is hard to arrange. More to come. -Jaymie
